MBTA riders react to latest transit disruption A new round of speed restrictions on the MBTA’s Red, Orange, Green and Blue lines made for a difficult commute Thursday night and Friday morning for riders relying on the public transit network. Though MBTA officials said they had lifted many of the new restrictions as of Friday morning around 10:30 a.m., frustration has lingered for some already impacted by previous public transit issues in the Boston area.  “You prepare at a certain time and it comes either 10 minutes too early or five minutes too late and it throws off your whole schedule,” Makha Kekana, a restaurant server, said. “Then you get to work and you’re five minutes late and you have to explain ‘Oh I missed the T or the T didn’t come in time,’ so it can be a little frustrating.”Kekana gets paid hourly. She said she counts on the T to get her to work in time for her shift. Issues over the years, she said, have led to lost wages. “If you’re 30 minutes late, that’s like half your hourly wage that you h...

Guregian: Devin McCourty’s retirement leaves Patriots with huge void Devin McCourty earned several nicknames from his teammates. Perhaps it was Matthew Slater who came up with the best one.He called him “Mr. Patriot.”During a media session a few years back, Slater explained why he gave McCourty, who announced his retirement Friday, that moniker.“I just think of everything he embodies and what he stands for. Obviously his on-the-field play is elite, he’s one of the best players at his position in the league. On the field, he’s like another coach,” said Slater. “He’s so reliable, so consistent, his football I.Q. is the best that I’ve seen over the last several years. It’s up there with the best over the course of my career.“And then what he does off the field, as well. The type of man he is, his consistent character, the things that he does in the community, the type of teammate that he is. If you’re looking for a guy that you want to build a team around, you want young players to look to and model, that’...
