HINSDALE, N.H. (AP) — Geoffrey Holt was unassuming as the caretaker of a mobile home park in New England, where he lived a simple but curious life. Residents would see Holt around town in threadbare clothes—riding his lawn mower, headed to the convenience store, parked along the main road, reading a newspaper, or watching cars pass. So many Coloradans responded to a call to donate pieces of their livers that Children’s Hospital Colorado expects every child in need of a transplant this year will get one.Hopefully, others will show the same generosity next year, since additional local children will get sick and kids in other parts of the country are still waiting for life-saving organs, said Dr. Amy Feldman, medical director of the liver transplant program at Children’s Hospital Colorado. In early September, the hospital asked healthy adults to consider donating a section of their livers.Ten children were waiting at the time, and the University of Colorado Hospital hadn’t recovered as many livers from deceased donors as in previous years. Some of the children were at risk of becoming too sick to undergo the surgery if organs didn’t become available soon, meaning they would have been out of medical options.“If we could have 10 people step forward and donate to these kids, that would be...Ridley Scott gives us only a partial picture in “Napoleon” | Movie review

“Napoleon” offers so much. The latest effort from the endlessly prolific filmmaker Ridley Scott, the historic epic dramatizes the fascinating life of French figure Napoleon Bonaparte, tracing his rise and eventual fall — only to be followed by a second rise and fall — and examining his love and, perhaps, downright obsession with his wife Josephine.Joaquin Phoenix appears in a scene from “Napoleon.” (Apple TV+)As it does so, “Napoleon” presents us with numerous battle sequences, the kind of spectacle-filled exercises at which Scott is so adept. And while it gets an uneven performance by Joaquin Phoenix — who certainly looks the part at roughly Napoleon’s height at 5-foot-8 and regularly wearing the bicorne hat, ends pointed to the shoulders, that is synonymous with him — it is lifted by the level of excellence from co-star Vanessa Kirby, as Josephine, that we’ve come to expect. It is fast-moving and generally entertaining.“Napoleon” offers so much.
