As WGN TV celebrates 75 years, we’re looking back with a series of stories on the history and the memories.CHICAGO — The dawn of a new era began on April 5, 1948, when WGN-TV officially went on the air for the first time. Colonel Robert R. McCormick, former head of the Tribune Company, commented, “In television we have embarked upon another of America’s adventures. Come along with us! Let us share the adventure together.”On Thursday from 7 p.m. — 9 p.m. Central Time WGN-TV aired a special report. AUGUSTA, Ga. (KXAN) — Defending Masters champion Scottie Scheffler jarred an ace on the ninth hole of Wednesday's Par 3 Contest, but perhaps thankfully for him, he didn't win it.Tom Hoge fired a 6-under-par to win the family-centric exhibition event on Augusta National's newly-renovated par-3 course, but it's well-known that the Par 3 winner has never won the real tournament in the same year. BOLLINGER COUNTY, Mo. - Missouri Governor Mike Parson got an aerial view of the damage left behind by an early Wednesday morning tornado in Bollinger County.“It’s a long journey ahead for the people that live here," Parson said.The tornado killed five people and injured five more. ST. LOUIS - More than 3,000 Catholic parishioners continued to speak out against the Archdiocese of St. Louis All Things New restructuring plans on Wednesday. The parishioners are hoping to find a way to prevent parishes from merging or shutting down. The restructuring plans of the church have some parishioners on edge."They're going to officially promulgate this on Pentecost Sunday in May, but there is no indication that they are changing," said Dr. Bob Onder. The driver of a crane vehicle was killed after crashing into a power pole in Malibu on Wednesday.Los Angeles County firefighters received reports of the incident around 5:20 p.m. near Las Flores Canyon and Gorge Roads.The crash happened as the truck was driving down Las Flores Canyon Road and somehow lost control.Sky5 images show the overturned vehicle tangled in power lines while lying on a brush area. (KRON) -- An Oakland man, Burte Gucci Rhodes, a.k.a. "Moeshawn," was sentenced to serve the rest of his life in prison for committing a murder-for-hire, conspiring before the murder, and dealing heroin. The sentence was handed down by the U.S. District Judge William Alsup on Wednesday.Prosecutors described 41-year-old Rhodes as an "assassin." He was convicted by a jury after a week-long trial last year.
