Dear Amy: I became a grandmother this year.I am a boomer widow and I live alone on a limited income. My son, daughter-in-law and grandson moved to another state, about an eight-hour drive from where I live.I do not feel comfortable making the drive by myself, but I can fly.Even though he lives in a three-bedroom home, my son wants me to stay in an Airbnb when I visit. So in order to visit them, according to his demands, I need to pay for the long-distance parking at the airport, the airfare, the Airbnb, and rent a car to get back and forth from the Airbnb to their house. This is about $1,000 to visit for a couple of days.I have done this twice. He tells me, “Don’t give us gifts, save up for the trip.”But it’s not just the cost; I don’t like staying by myself at an Airbnb.I told him that if he wants me to visit them (the baby is adorable and will be a year old soon) he should, please, pick me up from the airport and let me have a spot on their floor.Related ArticlesAsk ...Journalism as a battlefield against Russia and its wealthy businessmen

The media space and various news portals have long been fertile ground for all sorts of showdowns involving rich Russians who seek to reside in Europe using both legal and illegal means and secret roots to obtain a cherished European citizen's passport. Furthermore, this story has a direct projection on Ukraine and Russia's counter standing - writes Louis Auge.Journalism in Ukraine and Russia has switched to the rails of information warfare: the parties are trying to present each other in the most negative light. More and more often there are publications with no evidence, we observe a frequent misuse of information together with the legalization of fakes. However, the information struggle itself is already being transferred to the territory of the EU and directly affects the Europeans themselves, causing serious damage to them. For example, the so-called "golden passport" programs have been actively criticized recently. There are revelations of citizens of different countries, includ...Review: Denzel battle the Italian mafia in ‘Equalizer 3’

By Jake Coyle | Associated PressThere’s an awful lot of talk about the end of movie stars considering Denzel Washington is right over here, walking around.Antoine Fuqua’s “Equalizer 3,” a taut and textured sequel to Washington’s vigilante series, isn’t one of the actor’s best films. It wouldn’t crack his top 10. But it vividly encapsulates Washington’s formidable on-screen potency. You might think this would be in the movie’s brutal action sequences, but no. It’s the scenes of Washington fastidiously having a cup of tea at a sidewalk cafe or strolling the streets of a Sicilian town. This is a movie stitched together less by its plot mechanics than the pleasure of watching Denzel smirk, scowl and smile, in leisurely scenes mixed in with all the murder. In that way, the “Equalizer” movies (the third of which is certainly the best of a so-so bunch), remind me of those great Walter Matthau thrillers like “...Three-bedroom home sells for $2.1 million in San Ramon

The early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic taught the world many lessons, not the least of which was how easy it can be take socializing for granted. Lockdown was a big part of life during the early days of the pandemic, as people were forced to stay home from work and school and remain largely isolated, even from their own friends and family members. The sense of isolation that many people developed during those early days of the pandemic likely didn’t come as a surprise to medical researchers, particularly those who have studied the effects of isolation on aging populations. MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City completed the signing of midfielder Matheus Nunes on Friday after agreeing to pay Wolverhampton a reported transfer fee of 53 million pounds ($67 million). The Brazil-born Portugal international had been refusing to train with Wolves in an effort to force a move to City, which had a lower bid rejected last week. He signed a five-year contract, City said.City manager Pep Guardiola was looking for help in the midfield. The injured Kevin De Bruyne could be out until the new year.City also lost Ilkay Gundogan, who joined Barcelona after his contract expired, and signed central midfielder Mateo Kovacic as a replacement. However, that’s not a like-for-like replacement, with Kovacic operating in deeper areas than Gundogan, who often played as an attacking midfielder just off Erling Haaland. The 25-year-old Nunes typically plays further forward than Kovacic so would offer something different to the Premier League and European champions.“The opportuni...Latest news
